Squidoo Is Stepping Up To The Plate For Pendleton SC

Squidoo is having a charity contest this summer called the Summer Sunshine Award Contest for Charity. They will be giving away $99 a day each weekday for 60 days beginning June 7, 2010. Friends of the Park is an approved Squidoo Charity so we have a chance to be a winner more than once. Lensmasters are asked to create a lens after May 1, 2010 and opt to donate 100% of their royalties to an approved charity. That means that Friends of the Park will be receiving 100% of the royalties from every lens that is created on it's behalf.

You can nominate these lenses by submitting the New Nomination Form to be used for this contest Sunshine Award Nomination Form

To date we have 9 lenses donating 100% of their royalties to Pendleton's Friends of the Park and I anticipate this list to grow. If you would like to see our Veterans Park be a winner, then please nominate each of these lenses. You can only nominate a lens once but you may nominate as many lenses as you would like. Please visit these lenses and leave a comment by choosing "visitor" in the comment section.

FREEDOM FEST 2011 - JULY 2 AT 6:30

July 2nd is just around the corner and "Friends of the Park" hopes that you have marked your calendar for the 21th Freedom Fest at Veterans Park.

This is our largest Fundraiser and we need lots of volunteers. The proceeds this year will benefit the ball fields at Veterans Park as well as a Veterans Memorial. Friends of the Park, Pendleton Recreation Association and the Town of Pendleton have joined forces for a Fundraising Campaign for the Ball Fields called "STEP UP TO THE PLATE". We hope you volunteer to help in this effort.

Easter Event In Pendleton SC

Pendleton SC's historic Village Green has been the site of many an Old Fashioned Easter Egg Hunt and the tradition continues this year on March 28 from 2 to 5 pm. It will begin with an Easter Parade, so get in line on Queen Streetin front of the Anderson Co. School District 4 Office around 1:30 pm. Just show up and get in line. You do not have to register or anything. Come with your car, truck, golf cart or wagon decorated for Easter or if you prefer you can enjoy the nice stroll to the town square. If you don’t want to walk the whole route, just wait by the side of the road and join in when the parade comes by. The parade will follow down Exchange Street on the and turn left onto Main Street where you are free to turn around and head back to the Village Green for the Egg Hunt followed by Games, Snacks, Bake Sale, Face Painting, Crafts and lots of prizes and goodies.

This year the event is sponsored by Friends of the Park and organized by Pendleton High School's Environmental Awareness Club. There will be a charge of 25 cents to one dollar for the games and crafts which will benefit the ball fields at Veterans Park. The Environmental Awareness Club will donate the proceeds from the Bake Sale to the Anderson County Animal Shelter. Also, some scheduled Free Activities such as Tug of War and fun relays will be led by the Clemson Business Experience of Clemson University under the direction of Suerea Wooten. There may even be a few surprises throughout the day so come join the FUN in Pendleton March 28 from 2 until 5. Bring the children with their Easter Baskets and enjoy this fun-filled afternoon. Young Toddlers will hunt for eggs in front of the Farmers Hall and the Elementary aged children will hunt at the back of Farmers Hall. Approximately 2,000 eggs will be hidden on the Village Green with each egg containing a prize.The Environmental Awareness Club President, Adam Cobb, will give the signal to go and the hunt will begin. It is amazing to watch all the eggs swooped up in just minutes, so don’t be late or you will miss all the fun. Pendleton SC's Old Fashioned Easter Parade and Easter Egg Hunt

The historic Village Green will once again be the site of Pendleton's traditional Easter Egg Hunt but first we will enjoy the Old Fashioned Easter Parade (Denver Christmas Parade Style).  All you do is show up to line up around 1:30 on Queen Street in front of the Anderson Co. School District 4 Office.  Decorate your bicycle, your car, truck, wagon and just planned to stroll along as the parade travels down Queen Street to Exchange Street on the Square and then turns left on Main before breaking up to return to the Village Green for the Egg Hunt.

In the past over 2,000 plastic colored eggs have been hidden on the Village Green and every single egg is found in less than 10 minutes as children run and begin filling their baskets.  It is a site to see if you have never witnessed this.  I heard someone say that it was like a Giant Magnet lowers toward the green and swoops up all 2,000 eggs at once.

But wait!  The event isn't over with the Egg Hunt.  Oh no, not this year.  There will be more to follow such as carnival type games, face painting, and crafts.  There will be a charge for these activities and the proceeds will go toward the ball fields at Veterans Park.  There will also be other goodies sold to eat and drink.  The profits from the Bake Sale will go to the Anderson County Animal Shelter so you see, these are two great causes that we hope you will support.

There will also be some free activities such as Tug Of War, Egg in the Spoon Relay, and other relays.  All these activities are planned and carried out by the Environmental Awareness Club of Pendleton High School.  The Easter Event is sponsored by Friends of the Park this year but it is these fine young folks from PHS who are doing all the work.  We have been so impressed with them and are excited about this event.

So, bring your children and their Easter Baskets and join us in Pendleton for a fun filled day on Sunday, March 28, 2010 from 2 until 5.  Please leave your pets at home.  It is just not safe and some children and adults are very afraid of animals.  Thank you.
