Help Needed To Locate Info and Pictures of The Old Houses of Pendleton SC

Note From Jackie Reynolds of the Pendleton Historic Foundation:

Help Needed to Locate Info & Pictures of the Old Houses of Pendleton

The Pendleton Historic Foundation is developing a new book on the historic houses, churches and commercial buildings in the Pendleton area to be published during Pendleton’s 225th anniversary year celebration in 2015. We plan to provide a picture of each structure or house, brief history of significa
nt residents, physical addresses as well as GPS coordinates if possible. This will allow us to place the sites on current maps.

We currently have about 80 historic houses on our list including a number of those houses that no longer exist. We have found a good resource for pictures of many of those historic houses that are gone in a scrapbook titled “Old Homes in and around Pendleton, SC” from 1939 containing photos by Lewis Moorhead and assembled by Gaillard Hunter. This scrapbook is located in Clemson University’s Special Collections and but many of the pictures are not of the best quality.

We are making a request of the many families of Old Pendleton who may have pictures of these historic houses in their family photo collection to allow us have copies. We don’t mind if there are people in the pictures as long as the house can be seen. We are also looking for a short history or even family folklore about some of the people who lived in these houses …. Something interesting, something infamous, or even a good ghost story.

If you are willing to help us with photos or stories, please let me know. We would prefer a scanned digital copy of the photos or if you do not have access to a scanner, I would be happy to scan them and return the originals to you immediately. We would also ask that you sign a photo release to allow us to publish the picture. We have a professional writer who is willing to help us with the book when we can provide her with all of the pertinent historical data. Our target is to start this process by early next year.

If you are interested in participating in this new book project, please contact me with the information that you wish to provide. It can be a wonderful addition to Pendleton’s 225th anniversary celebration and one that will last far into the future.

"FEEDING THE FLOCKS" CHURCH COOKBOOK

Pendleton United Methodist Church is publishing a new cookbook entitled "Feeding The Flocks".  It will be filled with over 400 of the congregation's favorite recipes.  If you have ever enjoyed a covered dish at our church, you know what great cooks we have.  Many of these recipes have been shared at the Sunday Salkehatchie lunches and the Sunday Snackpak lunches.  You can get kind of a sneak preview by visiting this page:  http://www.squidoo.com/church-cookbook

You can preorder by calling one of the Outreach Team members or the church office.  The numbers are listed below on the flyer.  The books are due to arrive late September and the team will be selling them at the Pendleton Fall Harvest Festival on October 5, 2013.  Your purchase will be helping 3 of our church missions:  Salkehatchie, Haiti, and the Weekend Snack Pack Program.  Thank you.

Diamond Day at Veterans Park May 18, 2013

Diamond Day is sponsored by the Pendleton Recreation Association in Pendleton SC and is an amazing sight to see.  The three ball fields at our Veterans Park will have games going on during the day with parents, friends and relatives cheering on the participants.  Don't forget to purchase a great tasting hot dog from the volunteers at the concession stand.

Pendleton Recreation Association is a non profit volunteer organization that provides the sports for our area.  They really do an amazing job and the children get so much out of being a part of this program.  One day we hope to have ball fields that we can really be proud of and many folks are working hard to make sure that happens.  If you would like to help, please send your tax deductible donation to:
Friends of the Park
PO Box 408
Pendleton, SC 29670

(checks payable to Friends of the Park and specify "for ball fields" on the menu line).  You can keep up with the Step Up To The Plate fundraising campaign by visiting our Veterans Park Website at
