Pendleton Area Business Association

PABA met last night and they allowed me to tell about Squidoo and my next lens which will feature the businesses on the square and beyond. It was a very good meeting and a wonderful group of people. It was so nice to meet the new business owners of Whitworth Trading Company and The Village Baker. These two new businesses will add a lot to our little town.

Aunt Ruby's Peach Cobbler

I have made Aunt Ruby's Peach Cobbler at least 100 times and it was always delicious. This past weekend I decided to give my husband a treat and make it. I looked for the recipe and couldn't find it but felt confident that I remembered it. Aunt Ruby used to say "It is just 2,2,2" meaning 2 cups of everything - peaches, flour, milk and sugar with one stick of butter. I was preoccupied with Squidoo and that is not a good mixture for cooking. I wasn't thinking and used the 1/2 cup measurer that was in the flour as 1 cup and then when I realized it, I tried to add more flour to get it right. I kept going back to my computer to check to see if I had any traffic on my 3 lenses and really didn't have my heart into the cobbler at all. I stuck it in the oven and went back to Squidoo. When I opened the oven door to check it, I was shocked to find that it had overflowed the dish and left what my husband said looked like the Michelin Tire man in the bottom of the oven. Yes, I am serious. There was a pretty tall glob of dough cooking at the bottom and the dish looked like a volcano had erupted. I pulled it out and it was a big mess to say the least. I wondered what Aunt Ruby would have said about that. Then a feeling of sheer comfort came over me as I thought about my wonderful Aunt Ruby and knew that she would have just hugged my neck and said, "Don't worry. It will still taste good". It must have because my husband just about ate the whole thing and had lots of fun teasing me.

OLD ROAD IN FRONT OF FARMERS HALL

I saw Jacky Manley today at Granny's Grill. I love my Saturday morning breakfast at Granny's. About a year ago my husband asked me to join him and I have been going ever since. I get to sit with the greatest table of people and really enjoy this outing......ok.....back to Jacky.....he asked me what the name of the old road was that used to go in front of the Farmers Hall. I remember that road well but can't think of the name of it for anything and he wouldn't tell me. It is driving me crazy. If you are reading this and know the answer, please tell me. Thanks, Nancy

GOLDFINCH

We have certainly enjoyed the beautiful Goldfinch this summer. My husband got a mesh bag of seed from Griff's and attached it to the pole that holds a hummingbird feeder. The finches and hummingbirds are constantly getting their fill. I have seen as many as 4 goldfinch and 2 hummingbirds all there at the same time. If you want to learn more about the Goldfinch, you can check out this Squidoo site. I have about decided that you can learn almost anything from Squidoo. With over 600,000 lenses, just about every topic known to man is discussed and explored.

5 FORKS AND A SPOON CAFE

When I heard the name, I knew that I would have to go and eat at "5 Forks And A Spoon" which is in an old little grocery store in the 5 Forks Community on Slater Road. It is so neat. I had a delicious hamburger and my husband had the grilled chicken, beans, mac and cheese and canteloupe. We got there before 12 which was a good time since it was filling up fast when we left. I just love the name......how clever!
